Leda & the Swan
Oil on Canvas
20in. x 36in.
According to Greek myth, Zeus, upon disguising himself as a swan, seduced the beautiful Leda. This coupling leads to the birth of Helen who, when later abducted by Paris, brought about the Trojan War.
The lucid, dreamlike quality of the painting is accomplished by an exaggeration of value. This technique, a variation of soft and sharp edges paired with such extremities of value, create an ethereal work seemingly glowing with energy.
Painted after his colossal, vibrantly colored Lemuria, Pensatore, in true fashion, created a monochromatic, trompe l'oeil oil painting, thus allowing him to show his knowledge of and fascination with, human anatomy.
